Thank you, for giving me the chance to serve my community as a councillor in Peartree Ward. I have used my first year as a Borough councillor to good effect, helping residents and working constructively with the council.

The recent election saw the Liberal Democrats and Labour winning enough seats to form a coalition as a new administration and I have been appointed as the Chair of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee.

We seek to change the direction of the council with new ideas including an emphasis on green issues and a stricter regime for planning applications in order to preserve the nature of our Garden City. Providing housing is important but we need to make sure there is more social housing, which is sorely needed. There also a need for proper infrastructure to go with the housing developments in Welwyn Hatfield.

I will work towards these aims together with my fellow LibDem councillors in Peartree, the recently re-elcted Russ Platt and Simon Goldwater to make this borough a better place to live in.
