What services does Hertfordshire County Council Provide?

Adult Care Services

The county council provides care and support for older people & adults with mental health problems, sensory, physical or learning disabilities through Adult Care Services. We already work in close partnership with the health service, district councils and voluntary organisations to plan, commission and deliver social care services. By co-ordinating service to meet each individual's needs effectively we can help people live as independent lives as possible with easier access to prompt and high quality care.

Children, Schools and Families

By bringing staff from Education and from children and families roles in social services together under a single CSF umbrella, Hertfordshire County Council has created a new, more efficient, integrated and co-ordinated way of working. CSF staff will liaise closely with colleagues in schools, health, district councils and voluntary organisations, pooling real-time information to complete the picture and - most important of all - improve outcomes for all the county's children and their families.

Information itself is a key service. Books, tapes, videos and new technologies such as the Internet are available for either pleasure or education at the county council's network of more than fifty libraries. The County Archives and Local Studies section also stores historic papers and photos to help residents and visitors investigate Hertfordshire's past.

Environment

Seeking to make Hertfordshire a better place in which to live, work and travel around. The county council looks after roads and public rights of way, promotes public transport, disposes of household waste, conserves and enhances the countryside and plans for transport, major new housing and mineral extraction.

Trading Standards

Ensures fair and safe trade in the county through inspection and advice to businesses and consumers

Fire and Rescue

Provides the public with peace of mind. Fire-fighters and fire safety officers are working to keep our communities safe and are there to help when we need them.

Registrars

Record the births, deaths and marriages that take place in the county each year.
