Councillor Malcolm Cowan thinks the roadworks need to be speeded up.

County and borough councillor Malcolm Cowan has called on the work at the Bridge Rd East/Broadwater Rd junction to be speeded up.

Malcolm says 'When I go by, I rarely see anyone actually doing any work. The holes in the road just lie there. Little effort is made to open up bits of road when they have been filled in and resurfaced.

'The disruption being caused by the lane closures is massive - there are long tailbacks blocking other junctions in the area. The 'temporary' builders traffic lights also cause delays because they seem to work to fixed timings instead of responding to traffic levels.'

'To have the work scheduled to last 15 weeks is unacceptable. I will be writing to the authorities asking them to get the work done more quickly - there is now a system for rationing use of road-space and I will be asking for this to used to speed things up. Otherwise it will still be chaos when the Hatfield tunnel is part-closed, and people are looking for rat-runs through WGC.'
