Falling ratings for County

The latest Audit Commission rating of Herts County Council is 'good' - down from 'excellent' which it has been for the last few years.

LibDems performance spokesperson county councillor Malcolm Cowan said

'the devastating recent report on children's services is the reason for the downgrading; it is the equivalent in football terms of going from Premiership to Championship - not that you would know from the bland press release from HCC, which again fails to acknowledge the reality of what has happened'

Malcolm added 'There is much that is indeed good about the county council's performance, and several areas have improved, but a more honest and transparent acknowledgement of where it has been found wanting would make it more credible.'
