Council rubbish? - John gets action in Welham Green

A load of rubbish that got cleared.

Last week, in the lead into Christmas residents in Nash Close, Holloways Lane and Booths Close suffered problems with the waste collection. It took the Liberal Democrats to sort out the mess last Friday. On Wednesday before Christmas the Council missed a series of roads in Welham Green, having already piled the rubbish on footpaths and the road ready for collection. Despite calls from several residents telling the Council that the piles of black bags were a risk after dark the Council failed to return to collect the bags of rubbish until John Elvy intervened. One resident called the Council on three occasions, but had failed to get agreement that the Council would come out to collect the items. He was told, yes the council had received quite a few calls about this, but its just going to have to wait. John Elvy got on the case and contacted Liberal Democrat councillors who then forced the contractor Serco to come out that afternoon and clear the rubbish.

One resident said "I was very impressed with their interest and action. I am usually a Labour voter, but for this election I will switch to support John. If he acts like this as a councillor he will be able to resolve many of the other local issues we face in the village, like commuter parking".

John is already on the case about the weekday parking problems on Holloway Lane and Nash Close. John said, "from speaking to local residents we know that the Conservative Councillors have been asked to resolve the problem of dangerous parking, but the best they could do was to come round on a Saturday to visit, when parking is not a problem! I am determined to get the council to take a local perspective to the problem, and find solutions with local people". The Liberal Democrats are the only party who can really challenge the Conservative candidate, and it may take only 50 people to vote who would normally have voted Labour, to win the New Year election on 3rd January.
