Nigel Quinton, Liberal Democrat Candidate for Handside Ward, in Welwyn Garden City Town Centre, campaigning for a safer, fairer, greener Britain.

"What do we stand for", asks Nigel?

SAFER…..

GREENER…..

FAIRER…..

These are the key themes of the Liberal Democrat approach to local government. Gradually these basic aspirations have been eroded as successive governments stole power from local people and transferred it to Whitehall.

We cannot choose our own policing policies. We have unfair and painful taxes forced on us. Decisions about our schools and hospitals are being taken by bureaucrats in London who probably don't even know where Welwyn Hatfield is!

Liberal Democrats insist that power be returned to the people, they are the ones who know what is best for their areas.

SAFER…..

Nobody should be afraid to leave their home, to walk down the street at night, or let children play outside. Our agenda isn't about grabbing headlines, it isn't tough talk. It's about what works.

GREENER…..

Climate change is the single greatest threat to our way of life. Local government needs to be at the forefront of cutting emissions and waste. Where residents have put LibDems in charge they are seeing dramatic improvements. We are

Boosting recycling.

Encouraging energy efficiency.

Promoting public transport.

FAIRER…..

Pensioners face a staggering 25% hike in council tax this year. As there is no election this year Gordon Brown scrapped the £200 rebate for pensioners. Neither of the other parties have any ideas how to fix the unfair Council Tax, only the LibDems are committed to axing the tax.

Nigel promises to work for you, the residents of Handside.
