Tax rises in Hertfordshire - higher in Conservative led Welwyn Hatfield.

It's that time of year again! Soon, your Council Tax bill will be coming through the door. And yes, Council Tax is going up. We did a quick trawl through the County and came up with figures that show that Herts County Council is showing a tax rise of 5.0 %, and it is controlled by the Conservatives. In Welwyn Hatfield, also Conservative led, tax is up by 4.9 per cent. Yet, Three Rivers, St Albans and Watford, all led by the Liberal Democrats, show only modest increases. Makes you wonder, doesn't it?

The LibDems refused to support either Conservatives or Labour during the Council's debate. As Councillor Tony Skottowe said, "We could not support a tax rise imposed on residents by an inept Conservative administration in County Hall, nor could we vote with Labour, whose party in Westminster has brought so much grief to local government with its meddling and buck passing. Our view came down to 'A plague on both your houses'." We believe it is time to show your support for Liberal Democrats.
