Stop Press: European Elections Andrew Duff, our Euro MEP was returned for another term in office. The distribution of the 7 MEPs in the Eastern Region remained the same. That is, 3 Conservatives, 2 UKIP, one Labour and one Liberal Democrat. Good news for the Liberal Democrats is that we beat Labour in the number of votes, and Andrew was returned at number 4 compared with number 5 out of the 7 last time.

MALCOLM RE-ELECTED WITH AN INCREASED MAJORITY!
Thanks to everyone who contributed to a closely fought campaign.
The Liberal Democrats are now in second place in the constituency overall in terms of the percentage vote, so this augurs well for us to become the official opposition in the next General elections.
The Liberal Democrats gained 4 seats across the county and are now the official opposition at County Hall, with 17 seats in total. The Conservatives gained a number of seats from Labour, who now only have 3 seats on the county council.
Comments: Overall, the Liberal Democrats gained 4 seats. Hemel St Pauls, was Labour, and is now Lib Dem. St Albans South, was Conservative, now Lib Dem. The Colneys, Was Conservative, now Lib Dem. Nascott Park - was Conservative, now Lib Dem.
The BNP gained one seat from Labour, in South Oxhey.
Bedfordshire's new unitary authority has overall Conservative control. 11 Lib Dems have been elected to this authority and none of Labour.
The Liberal Democrats exist to build and safeguard a fair, free and open society, in which we seek to balance the fundamental values of liberty, equality and community and in which no-one shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity.

County Cllr Stephen Giles-Medhurst, the Liberal Democrat Environment spokesperson, said: "It has been clear for some years that local residents have become sick and tired of the poor deal they get from their money when it comes to the maintenance of roads and pavements. "It is obvious from mine and other councillors' post bags that the dreadful state of our highways and pavements combined with the failure to do maintenance work jobs properly is the number one issue with residents.
