Malcolm Cowan back in County Hall for another term.

Stop Press: European Elections Andrew Duff, our Euro MEP was returned for another term in office. The distribution of the 7 MEPs in the Eastern Region remained the same. That is, 3 Conservatives, 2 UKIP, one Labour and one Liberal Democrat. Good news for the Liberal Democrats is that we beat Labour in the number of votes, and Andrew was returned at number 4 compared with number 5 out of the 7 last time.

County Results Welwyn Hatfield. MALCOLM RE-ELECTED WITH AN INCREASED MAJORITY! Thanks to everyone who contributed to a closely fought campaign.

The Liberal Democrats are now in second place in the constituency overall in terms of the percentage vote, so this augurs well for us to become the official opposition in the next General elections.

The Liberal Democrats gained 4 seats across the county and are now the official opposition at County Hall, with 17 seats in total. The Conservatives gained a number of seats from Labour, who now only have 3 seats on the county council.

Comments: Overall, the Liberal Democrats gained 4 seats. Hemel St Pauls, was Labour, and is now Lib Dem. St Albans South, was Conservative, now Lib Dem. The Colneys, Was Conservative, now Lib Dem. Nascott Park - was Conservative, now Lib Dem.

The BNP gained one seat from Labour, in South Oxhey.

Bedfordshire's new unitary authority has overall Conservative control. 11 Lib Dems have been elected to this authority and none of Labour.

Tory county council marked down again by inspectors

A report by the Audit Commission, the financial watchdog for local authorities, has reduced the Tory-run County Council's scores this year. Use of Resources, one of the most important judgements on the council, fell to 2 out of 4.

Malcolm Cowan was re-elected to Handside and Peartee Division of the county council, after a closely run contest. The results were: Malcolm Cowan, Lib Dem, 1804; Berenice Dowlen, Green, 316; Dean Milliken, Lab, 426; Fiona Thompson, Conservative, 1669.
